Time Off That Works for You
We know how important it is to recharge. That’s why Pennington County offers 11 paid holidays each year, plus vacation and sick leave that accrues with every paycheck. In the first year, full-time employees earn 3.08 hours of vacation and 3.08 hours of sick leave per pay period, which adds up over time—giving you flexibility when you need it most.

Health Insurance That Has Your Back
We offer two medical plan options through Wellmark Blue Cross Blue Shield of South Dakota—a traditional copay plan and a high-deductible plan—so you can choose what works best for you. Coverage begins the first of the month following one full calendar month of employment, with the County covering a significant portion of the premium. Supplemental options through AFLAC and Family Heritage are also available.

Dental Coverage That Makes You Smile
Dental care is provided through Delta Dental of South Dakota, with coverage beginning the first of the month after one full calendar month of employment. Pennington County covers a large portion of the premium, making dental health more affordable for you and your family.

Clear Vision, Clear Focus
Stay sharp with supplemental vision plans available through EyeMed. These plans help cover eye exams, glasses, and contacts—giving you and your family flexible options for maintaining eye health.

Peace of Mind with Life Insurance
All employees receive a $20,000 basic term life insurance policy through New York Life, provided at no cost. You can also elect additional coverage for your spouse and dependents at an affordable rate—providing added peace of mind and financial protection.

Retirement You Can Count On
Pennington County employees are members of the South Dakota Retirement System (SDRS). Depending on your role, you’ll contribute either 6% or 8% of your salary, and the County matches your contribution dollar for dollar. You’ll also be automatically enrolled in the SDRS 457(b) supplemental retirement plan, starting with a $25/month contribution.
